Three Excellent Powertrain Options
Drivers of the 2016 Malibu will be immediately thrilled with the performance of this all-new model, as it has been built with the driver-in mind from the ground up. With an aerodynamic body style, and many performance-oriented features, the Malibu is available with two gas engines, and a third hybrid option. The standard engine, which is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 that offers 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The second option is an outstanding 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4, which will provide the driver with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The final powertrain configuration is a hybrid, which pairs an electric drive unit with two integrated electric motors. This hybrid configuration will offer 182 net horsepower, and 277 lb-ft of torque (when the electric motors are combined). The Malibu utilizes a great array of enhanced mechanisms to optimize the driving experience, including an independent MacPherson front strut system, and four-link independent rear system. The Malibu is a front-wheel drive vehicle that will perform adeptly in a number of driving conditions.
